entitled: "HOLIDAY ROAD"

wowsa. so here i am, sitting in paw paw, michigan, in the upstairs office of my maybe-hopefully-eventually-possibly mother and father-in-law's house. it is quiet and relaxing here with nobody around, yet it's great when the house fills back up - joe's family is loads of fun. i even stopped at the bar yesterday with his parents (joe was off with his sister purchasing last-minute christmas gifts), and they got me tipsy with two tall rum and cokes - 'oh, c'mon, we're driving you home, don't worry about it'. my parents barely ever lay a finger on alcohol, even on special occasions, so you can imagine how i welcomed this. i am sometimes amused when i remember i am only about 16 years younger than joe's parents - i am young enough to be their child, yet old enough to be their sibling. both ideas are kind of extreme, but i never look further into it than that. i'm just glad i know them, because they are cool people.

speaking of age, i will be 25 next tuesday, on christmas eve. i look forward to being right smack in the middle of my twenties.

joe and i visited my family first during this trip, in utica, michigan. it was really nice to see everyone, but also exhausting at the same time. because we decided to break tradition and come home and leave before christmas, my family made little to no effort to have one big gathering, so we could see everyone in one fell swoop. instead, joe and i drove around the detroit metro area, visiting relatives and exchanging gifts and pining to come to paw paw where we knew we could actually have some time to ourselves. but i had a nice time regardless, especially spending my niece's 8th birthday with her. and my almost-4 year old niece was glued to joe's lap both times we visited them. needless to say, joe earned the name 'uncle joe' by the time we departed.

i can't wait to pick up my rabbit and squeeze her when we get back to nyc - i keep having dreams about her. 2 more days, 2 more days, 2 more days...

song stuck in my head:
